Indian Army’s Southern Command conducts Exercise AMOGH JWALA to validate modern mechanised warfare and multi-domain operations.
Pune | 20 March, 2026: The Indian Army, under its Southern Command, successfully conducted Exercise AMOGH JWALA from March 6 to March 18, 2026, at the Babina Field Firing Ranges, marking a significant step toward enhancing India’s technology-driven combat readiness. The large-scale military exercise was designed to validate advanced mechanised warfare capabilities in a complex multi-domain operational environment, integrating land, air, cyber, and space-based systems.
The culmination of the exercise was witnessed by Lieutenant General Dhiraj Seth, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Southern Command, who lauded the participating troops for their professionalism, operational excellence, and high level of battle readiness. He emphasized that the future of warfare lies in the seamless integration of technology, joint operations, and real-time coordination across multiple domains, including Intelligence, Surveillance & Reconnaissance (ISR) and Electronic Warfare (EW).

Exercise AMOGH JWALA focused on testing new operational concepts, force structures, and battlefield procedures aligned with the evolving nature of modern warfare. The drills demonstrated the integrated deployment of mechanised forces alongside advanced aerial and technological assets such as attack helicopters, fighter aircraft, unmanned aerial systems (UAS), and counter-drone systems. These elements operated under a robust and network-enabled command and control framework, ensuring swift decision-making and coordinated responses.
One of the key highlights of the exercise was the execution of high-tempo mechanised operations involving synchronised firepower and manoeuvres. Real-time drone-enabled surveillance played a critical role in target acquisition and battlefield awareness, while precision engagement systems ensured effective neutralization of simulated threats. Advanced communication networks and surveillance technologies significantly enhanced battlefield transparency and enabled commanders to make faster and more informed decisions.

The exercise also validated integrated air-land manoeuvres, efficient battlefield airspace management for unmanned systems, and counter-UAS operations. Additionally, reorganized force structures incorporating emerging technologies were tested to assess their effectiveness in dynamic combat scenarios. The drills showcased the fusion of Electronic Warfare, Air Defence, and night-fighting capabilities, alongside ISR assets, highlighting the growing strength of a network-centric and future-ready military force.
Defence experts note that such exercises are crucial in preparing armed forces for modern conflicts, where technology, speed, and coordination play decisive roles. The increasing use of drones, cyber capabilities, and electronic warfare systems reflects a shift toward multi-domain operations, where traditional battlefield boundaries are rapidly evolving.
