Authorities have imposed major traffic restrictions in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad during Eid morning hours, with key roads near prayer grounds closed and several alternative routes designated for commuters.

Pune | March 20, 2026: In view of large gatherings expected for Eid prayers, Pune City Police and Pimpri-Chinchwad Police have announced extensive traffic diversions across key areas of the city on March 21 to ensure smooth movement and public safety.

According to officials, special traffic arrangements will be in place near major Eidgah grounds, particularly around Golibar Maidan in Pune and Chapekar Chowk in Nigdi under PCMC limits, where thousands of devotees are expected to assemble for Namaz.

In Pune city, traffic restrictions will remain effective from 6:00 AM to 11:30 AM. During this period, vehicular movement in and around Golibar Chowk will be significantly altered, with several stretches completely closed to traffic.

Key road closures include the stretch from Mammadevi Chowk to Golibar Chowk and Old Solapur Bazaar Chowk to Golibar Chowk, where all types of vehicles will be prohibited.

Traffic coming from CDO Square towards Golibar Chowk will be diverted via Napier Road, while vehicles travelling from Swargate towards Solapur Road will be rerouted between Seven Loves Chowk and Golibar Chowk.

Motorists from Khane Maruti Chowk will be directed through Pulgate Depot and Solapur Bazaar Chowk before proceeding via Khatav Bungalow Road and Napier Road to reach their destinations.

Heavy vehicles have been strictly restricted from entering the area during the specified hours. Authorities have advised such vehicles to use alternate routes via Solapur Road, Lullanagar and Khatav Bungalow Road. Additionally, heavy vehicles heading towards Pune Railway Station will not be permitted during this period.

For light vehicles, alternative routes via Empress Garden Road and Bishop’s School Road have been designated to ease congestion and maintain smoother traffic flow.

In the Pimpri-Chinchwad area, particularly near Nigdi, traffic restrictions will be in force for a longer duration-from 5:00 AM to 1:00 PM. During this time, complete traffic closure will be implemented between Mari Ai Mata Temple and Chapekar Chowk in both directions.

Additionally, vehicles travelling from Morya Nagar towards Chapekar Chowk will also face restrictions, with diversions in place to manage the expected crowd.

Police officials have clarified that emergency services, including ambulances, fire brigade vehicles and government vehicles on duty, will be exempt from these restrictions.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Himmat Jadhav has urged citizens to cooperate with authorities and follow the designated routes to avoid inconvenience. He emphasised that adherence to traffic guidelines will help ensure smooth conduct of Eid prayers and prevent congestion in sensitive areas.

Authorities have also advised commuters to plan their journeys in advance, avoid affected routes during peak hours and use public transport wherever possible.

With large-scale gatherings expected, the traffic police will deploy additional personnel at major junctions to regulate movement and assist commuters.
