Pune | 21 March, 2026: In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, the Pune Police Crime Branch seized 95 kilograms of ganja worth ₹99.93 lakh and arrested four individuals involved in the illegal trade. The , carried out on March 20, 2026, highlights intensified efforts by law enforcement agencies to curb narcotics supply in the city.
According to police officials, the operation was launched after receiving a specific tip-off during routine patrolling. Acting swiftly, a trap was laid near Bolhaimata Temple on the Kesnand–Wadebolhai Road, where the accused were suspected to be transporting the contraband. A white Swift Dzire car, allegedly fitted with a fake number plate, was intercepted during the operation. Upon inspection, police discovered 95 packets of ganja concealed inside the vehicle.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Miva Kalidas Waghmare (36), Vishnu Bhagwat Waghmare (25), Hari Shripati Dabale (32), and Manoj Anil Surwase (29), all residents of Karmala in Solapur district. During interrogation, the accused reportedly confessed that the drugs were being brought to Pune for distribution and sale.
Further investigation led police to conduct a follow-up search at the accused’s residence in Dharavi Chawl in Karmala, where an additional 18 kilograms of ganja was recovered. The total seizure, including the vehicle used for transportation, was valued at nearly ₹99.93 lakh, making it one of the significant drug busts in recent weeks in Pune.
A case has been registered at the Lohegaon Police Station under relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The accused have been produced before a court, and further investigation is underway to identify the larger network and supply chain behind the operation.
Officials stated that Pune has witnessed a series of drug-related crackdowns in recent months, indicating a growing concern over narcotics trafficking in urban areas. Law enforcement agencies have intensified surveillance, vehicle checks, and intelligence-based operations to dismantle such networks and prevent the spread of illegal substances.
In conclusion, the successful seizure underscores the Pune Police’s proactive approach in tackling drug crimes. However, the case also highlights the need for continued vigilance, stricter enforcement, and public cooperation to address the broader issue of narcotics circulation in the city.
