The escalating conflict in West Asia threatens to disrupt India’s burgeoning electronics sector, with projections suggesting a 25% decline in smartphone exports as regional instability compromises critical logistics and manufacturing operations.

According to recent industry reports, the ongoing conflict involving Iran is poised to trigger a sharp downturn in India’s smartphone exports, with Apple’s iPhone production identified as the most vulnerable segment. Analysts warn that the disruption could slash national export figures by as much as 25%, marking a severe blow to the “Make in India” initiative. The crisis stems from a combination of maritime insecurity and the targeted threats recently issued against major U.S. technology firms operating in the region. As the Red Sea and surrounding corridors become increasingly volatile, the specialized logistics required for transporting sensitive components and finished handsets have been thrown into disarray. Shipping insurance premiums have surged, and lead times for critical semiconductors sourced through Middle Eastern transit hubs have nearly doubled.

For Apple, which has significantly shifted its production base to India over the last three years, the timing is particularly detrimental. The company’s primary manufacturing partners in South India are reportedly facing inventory bottlenecks. Industry experts suggest that if the regional instability persists, the resulting supply chain constraints could lead to a domestic production shortfall of millions of units, directly affecting shipments to European and Middle Eastern markets.

Furthermore, the threat environment has forced logistics providers to seek longer, more expensive alternate routes around the Cape of Good Hope. This transition not only inflates the final cost of the devices but also diminishes the competitive pricing edge India-made smartphones previously held in the global market.
