The Maharashtra Cabinet has announced loan relief for unseasonal rain-affected farmers and MSMEs, and approved a dedicated power company for agriculture, alongside a new resilience programme with global funding support.

April 8, 2026 | Mumbai :In a series of key decisions aimed at providing relief to disaster-affected sections, the Government of Maharashtra has approved loan concessions for farmers impacted by unseasonal rains and extended financial support measures for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

The cabinet decision offers concessions on home loans to affected citizens, while MSMEs in impacted regions will receive relief in accessing credit, along with insurance protection. The move is intended to ease financial stress caused by crop losses and economic disruptions following recent weather-related damage across the state.

A significant structural reform was also cleared with the approval of a separate electricity distribution company dedicated exclusively to the agricultural sector. Under the plan, MSEB Solar Agro Power Limited will cater solely to agricultural consumers, ensuring focused service delivery and improved power supply for farmers. The existing Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited will continue to serve industrial, commercial and residential consumers.

The cabinet also gave its nod to the Maharashtra Resilience Development Programme, a new initiative designed to strengthen disaster preparedness and response systems. The programme is expected to receive financial assistance of ₹165 crore from international institutions and will support citizens affected by natural disasters such as floods, heatwaves and cyclones.

Additionally, the policy framework includes targeted assistance for unorganised sector workers, women entrepreneurs and small business operators, particularly those engaged in construction and informal trades. An implementation unit will be established at the Maharashtra Institution for Transformation (MITRA) to oversee execution and ensure effective delivery of benefits.

Officials stated that these decisions are part of a broader strategy to enhance economic resilience, safeguard vulnerable communities and improve sector-specific governance. The creation of a dedicated agricultural power entity, in particular, is expected to streamline electricity distribution and address long-standing challenges faced by farmers in the state.
