Kamshet Hidden Camera Scandal
A shop owner in Kamshet has been arrested after allegedly installing a hidden camera in a trial room and recording a woman without consent, raising serious concerns over privacy and safety.
April 8, 2026 | Pune : A disturbing case of privacy violation has surfaced in Kamshet near Pune, where a shop owner has been arrested for allegedly filming a woman inside a trial room using a concealed camera. The incident has sparked outrage and renewed concerns over safety in public and commercial spaces.
According to police officials, the incident took place at a clothing store in the Kamshet area of Maval taluka. The victim had visited the shop for shopping and was directed by the accused to use a designated room for trying clothes. It was later discovered that a hidden CCTV camera had been installed inside the trial space, allegedly capturing footage without the woman’s knowledge or consent.

Authorities confirmed that the accused used the surveillance setup to secretly record the victim, leading to immediate legal action after the matter came to light. The police have taken the shop owner into custody and initiated further investigation to determine whether more individuals may have been targeted in a similar manner.
The case has raised serious questions about the misuse of surveillance technology and the lack of regulatory oversight in private establishments. Trial rooms and changing areas are expected to ensure complete privacy, and any breach of this trust is considered a grave violation of personal rights.

Law enforcement agencies have urged citizens, particularly women, to remain cautious while using trial rooms and to be alert to suspicious objects or unusual placements of cameras or mirrors. Officials also emphasised the importance of reporting such incidents promptly to ensure swift action.
Experts note that such incidents highlight a broader issue of digital and physical surveillance misuse, where inexpensive and easily accessible recording devices are increasingly being used for illegal activities. The case also underscores the need for stricter enforcement of privacy laws and regular inspections of commercial establishments.
In recent years, similar incidents across the country have pointed to a growing trend of voyeurism-related crimes, often facilitated by hidden cameras in private spaces. Legal experts stress that offenders in such cases face stringent charges under laws related to privacy invasion and cybercrime.
As the investigation progresses, authorities are expected to examine digital evidence and verify whether any recorded material was circulated or stored for further misuse. The case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of vigilance and regulatory accountability in safeguarding individual privacy.
