Uddhav Thackeray targets Devendra Fadnavis and Centre, challenges BJP to fight without ED-CBI, raises unemployment and law & order issues.

Mumbai, April 21, 2026: A sharp political confrontation unfolded in Mumbai as Uddhav Thackeray launched a fierce attack on Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and the central government, daring them to face political opponents without the backing of investigative agencies. Speaking at the 58th annual general meeting of the Indian Workers’ Union, Thackeray accused the ruling establishment of misusing agencies like ED and CBI to target rivals, stating that true political strength should be tested in open democratic confrontation.

In a strongly worded address, Thackeray said it is better to “live one day like a tiger than a hundred days like a sheep,” urging the ruling side to drop reliance on central agencies and directly face Shiv Sena. He emphasized that the workers’ movement he represents has survived for decades purely on loyalty and grassroots strength, not institutional pressure.

Raising concerns over employment, Thackeray painted a grim picture of the current situation, claiming that joblessness has reached alarming levels. Drawing a comparison with Indians working in conflict-hit Gulf regions, he remarked that many workers now feel dying due to unemployment at home is worse than risking their lives abroad. He reiterated that his allegiance lies with workers and not industrialists, promising to continue fighting for labour rights.

The former Chief Minister also took aim at the state’s law and order situation, alleging a rise in drug-related crimes and incidents involving women’s safety. He criticized the government for focusing on political expansion outside Maharashtra while neglecting pressing local issues. Questioning the intent behind women’s empowerment narratives, Thackeray pointed out what he described as inconsistencies in giving due representation to women at major national events.

Invoking the idea of “Maharashtra Dharma,” he called upon party workers to stay united and prepared for upcoming political battles. Referencing the legacy of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Sambhaji Maharaj, Thackeray urged supporters to resist injustice and remain committed to ideological principles, taking a veiled dig at defectors.

The speech signals a renewed aggressive stance from the Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray faction), setting the stage for intensified clashes with the Bharatiya Janata Party in the coming months.

Uddhav Thackeray’s direct challenge to Devendra Fadnavis has escalated the political temperature in Maharashtra. With strong rhetoric and key issues raised, the state appears headed for a sharper and more confrontational political phase
