In line with the existing policy for state transport corporations, the Maharashtra government has ordered district collectors to fast-track verification certificates for the next of kin of Maratha reservation activists who lost their lives during the protests
Mumbai | 02 June 2026: The Maharashtra government has officially initiated administrative procedures to provide employment opportunities within the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) to the next of kin of activists who died during the Maratha reservation agitation. This decision follows a formal commitment made recently by State Minister Radhakrishna Vikhe-Patil to activist leader Manoj Jarange, signaling a major policy alignment with existing compassionate ground employment structures.

According to an official directive issued by the General Administration Department (GAD), all district collectors across the state have been instructed to immediately begin the verification process. The administration has emphasized the need for a swift, precise, and transparent evaluation to identify eligible family members of the deceased protestors. Once the verification is concluded, collectors are authorized to issue official eligibility certificates directly at the district level to expedite the hiring pipeline.
Previously, the state government extended similar compassionate appointment benefits to the families of deceased agitators within the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC). The current expansion ensures that one eligible legal heir from each affected family will be accommodated in a standard position within MIDC.

To prevent administrative delays, the GAD circular outlines clear guidelines for high-speed processing, instructing regional authorities to treat the matter with high priority. State officials expect that the issuance of centralized certificates will streamline the onboarding process across various industrial zones. The move is viewed as a crucial step by the state administration to fulfill its prior assurances and address long-standing grievances within the community.
