A technical fault caused a coach of the Vande Bharat Express to derail near Pune station, stranding passengers and disrupting multiple train services between Mumbai and southern routes
Pune | 29 April 2026: A major mishap was narrowly avoided on Monday evening after a coach of the Vande Bharat Express derailed while entering the yard of Pune Railway Station, triggering panic among passengers and severely affecting train operations.

The incident occurred around 7:30 pm when the Mumbai–Solapur service (Train No. 22225) was approaching the platform. A sudden jolt alerted passengers, and it was later confirmed that the wheels of coach C-15 had slipped off the tracks due to a technical fault. The derailment led to widespread disruption across the rail network, impacting services between Mumbai, Pune, and routes towards southern India. Several trains were delayed or halted as railway teams began emergency restoration work to bring the derailed coach back on track.
Passengers faced significant inconvenience as the affected coach came to a halt nearly 500 to 1000 metres away from the platform. With limited immediate assistance, many were forced to walk along the tracks in low light conditions, carrying their luggage. Elderly passengers and women were among the worst affected.

Railway Protection Force personnel and porters later assisted in guiding passengers safely to the platform. A special train arrangement was made for those travelling towards Solapur, and food packets were distributed at the station to manage the situation.Despite these efforts, passengers expressed frustration over the lack of timely coordination and support during the initial phase of the incident.

Senior railway officials, including Divisional Railway Manager Rajesh Kumar Verma, reached the site late at night, after which restoration work gained pace. Authorities continued operations into the night to normalise services, though delays of over ten trains were reported.
