Kolhapur | May 01, 2026: Kolhapur district is emerging as one of Maharashtra’s most significant eco-tourism destinations, driven by its rich natural heritage and biodiversity. The presence of Radhanagari Wildlife Sanctuary and the Sahyadri Tiger Reserve has placed the region prominently on the eco-tourism map, attracting nature lovers and wildlife enthusiasts from across the country and abroad.

Located in the Western Ghats, a globally recognised biodiversity hotspot, Radhanagari Wildlife Sanctuary is known for its dense forests and diverse species. It forms part of an ecologically sensitive region that supports a wide range of flora and fauna. The sanctuary, also known as Dajipur, is home to several wildlife species and serves as an important conservation zone.

The Sahyadri Tiger Reserve, which includes Chandoli National Park and the Koyna Wildlife Sanctuary, spans across multiple districts including Kolhapur, Sangli, Satara, and Ratnagiri. Established in 2010, the reserve is known for its presence of tigers, leopards, and other rare wildlife species. The region also supports medicinal plants and diverse forest ecosystems, making it a key ecological zone in the Western Ghats.

Apart from wildlife, the region offers varied landscapes including hill plateaus, deep valleys, ghats, waterfalls, and river catchment areas. Popular eco-tourism spots such as Chandoli National Park and Kolamb Plateau attract visitors for safari experiences and nature exploration.

Radhanagari, located around 59 km from Kolhapur city, offers several attractions including butterfly parks, viewpoints, temples, reservoirs, and nature interpretation centres. Nearby locations such as Rautwadi waterfall and various dams further enhance its tourism appeal.

Tourism facilities include safari buses, jeep rides, accommodation options like tents and dormitories, and guided tours. Entry fees and safari charges vary depending on vehicle type and visitor category, making the experience accessible for different types of tourists. Safaris operate during specific hours with weekly closures for maintenance and conservation management.

With its combination of biodiversity, scenic landscapes, and structured tourism facilities, Kolhapur continues to strengthen its position as a major eco-tourism destination in Maharashtra, drawing increasing interest from domestic and international travellers.
