The bypoll was conducted following the untimely demise of former Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, whose seat had fallen vacant.

Counting began at 8 am on Monday at the State Warehousing Corporation’s godown in Baramati MIDC. In her first reaction after the win, Sunetra Pawar said the overwhelming support shown by the people of Baramati was dedicated to Ajit Pawar’s memory. She thanked voters for giving her an opportunity to fulfil his vision for the constituency and described the victory as “not the end, but the beginning of a new Baramati.”

Her win also marks a significant milestone, as she becomes only the second woman MLA from Baramati after Malatibai Shirole, who was elected in 1962.
The by-election saw extensive campaigning by Mahayuti leaders, including Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, with the alliance urging voters to set a record turnout and mandate.
