New Delhi | May 7, 2026: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday marked the first anniversary of Operation Sindoor by changing the display picture on his official X account, commemorating India’s military response to the 2025 Pahalgam terror attack. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also updated their social media profile pictures to honour the armed forces and remember the operation.

The anniversary of Operation Sindoor drew widespread attention across political and defence circles, with leaders highlighting the operation as a symbol of India’s firm stand against terrorism and national security threats. The military operation was launched on May 7, 2025, following the terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam in which 26 civilians lost their lives.

According to official statements issued after the operation, Indian armed forces carried out coordinated strikes on terror infrastructure located in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir. Government sources had stated that multiple terror camps linked to organisations including Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e-Mohammed and Hizbul Mujahideen were targeted during the operation.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh praised the armed forces for their “precision” and “jointness” during the mission, while Prime Minister Modi said the operation reflected India’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding national security. The Indian Air Force also released a commemorative video revisiting key moments from the military action and honouring personnel involved in the operation.

The operation had led to heightened tensions between India and Pakistan last year, including cross-border shelling and drone attacks before a ceasefire understanding was reached after military-level talks between the two nations.
