Pune | May 12, 2026: Shri Vivek Raghunath Wadekar, a seasoned veteran of the 1991 Indian Revenue Service (IRS) batch, has formally taken charge as the Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax (Pr. CCIT) for the Pune region. This appointment marks a significant homecoming for the officer, who previously served as the Chief Commissioner of Income Tax in the city. His elevation to this top-tier position is seen as a strategic move to strengthen tax administration and enforcement in one of India’s most vital economic hubs.

His resume includes high-stakes roles in financial enforcement, having served as the Special Director of Enforcement at the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and as Additional Director in the Financial Intelligence Unit–India (FIU-IND). These assignments established him as a leading authority in the fight against money laundering and complex economic offenses. Furthermore, his strategic acumen was utilized at the highest echelons of government during his tenure as Director in the National Security Council Secretariat.

Beyond his administrative prowess, Shri Wadekar is recognized for his academic depth. An alumnus of St. Stephen’s College, Delhi, he holds both a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree in History and is proficient in the German language. Having previously managed heavy-duty legal and administrative portfolios as Principal Commissioner of Income Tax (Central) in Delhi, his leadership is expected to bring a refined balance of institutional integrity and modern governance to the Pune department. As he steps into this senior-most role, the local tax fraternity anticipates a period defined by transparent administration and robust service to the nation.
