May 14, 2026 | Pune: In a high-level push for renewable energy transition, Maharashtra’s Renewable Energy Minister and Chairman of MahaUrja (MEDA), Atul Save, has directed officials to prioritize the completion of solar power plants across all state government offices. Speaking at the 108th Regulatory Board meeting and the 31st Annual General Meeting held at MahaUrja Bhavan in Pune on Wednesday, Save emphasized that pending solar initiatives must be fast-tracked to meet the state’s green energy targets.

The Minister highlighted the importance of leveraging Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds to bridge financial gaps for social-sector solar projects. He noted that integrating solar technology into public infrastructure is not just an environmental necessity but an economic imperative to reduce long-term utility costs for the state treasury. To streamline the citizen experience, Save also ordered the immediate establishment of a dedicated call center to resolve grievances related to the PM-KUSUM scheme, which provides solar pumps to farmers.

The meeting was attended by Minister of State Meghna Sakore-Bordikar, MahaUrja Director General Omprakash Bakoria, and other senior officials. In a move toward sustainable administration, Minister Save issued a directive for all department officials to transition to electric vehicles (EVs) for official use. The session also marked a significant administrative step as Save and Bordikar presented appointment letters to newly recruited Project Officers and Accountants, strengthening the workforce dedicated to Maharashtra’s energy transition.

Addressing the technical challenges of current projects, the Minister urged the management to enhance monitoring systems to ensure that quality standards are maintained during the installation of rooftop solar systems. By focusing on both large-scale government installations and grassroots agricultural schemes, the department aims to solidify Maharashtra’s position as a leader in India’s decentralized renewable energy landscape.
