In a major development for global trade and aviation markets, US President Donald Trump has announced that China has agreed to purchase 200 Boeing aircraft as part of a broader economic understanding reached during high-level talks between Washington and Beijing. The proposed agreement is being viewed as one of the most significant commercial breakthroughs between the two countries in recent years.
According to reports, the aircraft order could be valued between $17 billion and $19 billion, with Trump suggesting the total number of planes could eventually rise to as many as 750 if future negotiations progress positively. The deal is expected to provide a major boost to American aerospace giant Boeing, which has struggled to regain momentum in the Chinese market following years of trade tensions and regulatory disputes.
The discussions between Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping also focused heavily on agriculture, energy exports and market access. China is expected to increase imports of American farm products, including soybeans and poultry, while both sides have agreed to continue discussions on reducing tariffs and easing non-tariff trade barriers.

However, Chinese officials have described the agreements as “preliminary,” indicating that several details regarding delivery timelines, participating companies and final trade terms are still under negotiation. Analysts believe the announcements nevertheless signal a temporary easing of tensions in the ongoing US-China trade dispute that intensified during recent tariff battles.
The proposed Boeing order also carries strategic significance for the US manufacturing sector, especially as Airbus had gained a dominant position in China during the years when Boeing deliveries faced setbacks linked to safety concerns and geopolitical friction.
