May 18, 2026 | New Delhi: Chief Justice of India Surya Kant has strongly clarified his recent controversial remarks, accusing the media of misinterpreting his statements and distorting their original context. The controversy erupted following an oral observation made by the Chief Justice during a Supreme Court hearing on Friday, which triggered massive backlash across various social media platforms. Initial reports claimed that the top judge had compared unemployed youth to cockroaches who later turn into media personnel or RTI activists to criticize the administrative system.

Addressing the controversy on Saturday, Chief Justice Surya Kant expressed deep anguish over the narrative generated by media reports. Clarifying his stance, he emphasized that his observations were absolutely not directed toward the nation’s unemployed youth, whom he described as the greatest strength of a developing India. Instead, the Chief Justice explained that his criticism was specifically targeted at individuals who secure fake degrees to enter noble professions like law.

He clarified that he used the term ‘parasites’ for those exploiting systemic loopholes, adding that his words were twisted to create a false narrative.
