A major health tragedy has unfolded in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad after the suspected consumption of toxic liquor allegedly claimed the lives of 15 people over the last few days. Several others are currently undergoing treatment at different hospitals, with some reported to be in critical condition.
According to officials, the victims are believed to have consumed locally manufactured illicit liquor allegedly mixed with harmful substances. The incident has sparked widespread concern among residents and prompted immediate action from the police, excise department and health authorities.
Authorities have launched a detailed investigation to trace the source of the toxic liquor and identify those involved in its production and distribution. Raids were reportedly conducted at multiple locations across the Pune metropolitan region as officials attempted to crack down on illegal liquor networks operating in the area.

Senior police officials stated that samples of the seized liquor have been sent for forensic examination to determine the exact chemical composition responsible for the deaths and illnesses. Officials are also recording statements from survivors and family members of the victims as part of the probe.
Health authorities have urged citizens to avoid consuming liquor from unverified or illegal sources, warning that spurious alcohol can contain dangerous chemicals capable of causing blindness, organ failure and death.
The tragic incident has once again highlighted the growing challenge posed by illegal liquor trade in urban and semi-urban areas of Maharashtra. Residents and social activists have demanded stricter enforcement and regular monitoring to prevent such incidents in the future.
Police officials said further arrests and action are expected as the investigation progresses.
