June 3, 2026 | Pune: In a major development for the state’s sports sector, young entrepreneur and Chairman of the Punit Balan Group, Punit Balan, was officially appointed as the Acting President of the Amateur Kabaddi Foundation of Maharashtra. The decision was formalized during a special executive body session at the foundation’s annual meeting held in Alandi. The resolution for his leadership role was introduced by Dnyanesh Kale of Satara, seconded by Gokul Tandale from Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, and subsequently passed with unanimous consent from all present voting delegates.
The administrative meeting was conducted under the organizational chairmanship of Sapna Waghmode alongside the prominent presence of Bharati Jagtap, gathering several senior sports administrators and key foundation officials. The primary focus of the assembly centered around constructing a progressive, dynamic, and highly transparent structural roadmap for the indigenous sport. Given Balan’s extensive past contributions to grassroots athletics, sports tournament governance, and youth development, the executive council entrusted him with steering the federation toward systemic modernization.

The executive members stated that under Balan’s professional management, regional kabaddi operations will transition toward better corporate structure, advanced data analytics, and enhanced commercial security for domestic players. The strategic transformation will heavily emphasize integrating modern technology, refining state-level tournament configurations, and building sustainable athlete pipelines from rural sectors. Furthermore, the committee finalized broad-scale plans to assume a highly active role in hosting premium multi-state and national kabaddi championships within the fiscal year.
Expressing deep gratitude upon his official appointment, Acting President Punit Balan emphasized that kabaddi remains deeply rooted in local Maharashtrian culture. He affirmed his core commitment toward introducing absolute organizational accountability and expanding grassroot platforms so that talented rural players receive the institutional visibility they deserve at the grandest stages.
