Former US President Donald Trump has claimed an agreement aimed at easing tensions involving Iran is nearing completion, even as concerns continue over security and shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.

Washington DC | June 15, 2026: Former United States President Donald Trump has said that a potential agreement involving Iran and regional security concerns is close to being finalised, signalling possible diplomatic progress despite continuing tensions surrounding the strategically crucial Strait of Hormuz.
Trump’s remarks come at a time of heightened geopolitical sensitivity in the Gulf region, where concerns over maritime security and energy supply routes remain central to global attention. The Strait of Hormuz, situated between Iran and Oman, continues to be under close international watch due to its significance as one of the world’s busiest oil transit corridors.
Meanwhile, Iranian officials have indicated that negotiations have made substantial progress. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei reportedly stated that large portions of the proposed agreement have already been finalised, suggesting momentum toward a diplomatic breakthrough. However, he also stressed that Iran would not compromise on what it considers its key national interests and “red lines” during the negotiation process.
The reported progress in discussions comes amid persistent concerns over stability in the Gulf, particularly regarding shipping movement through the Strait of Hormuz, a route responsible for transporting nearly one-fifth of global oil supplies. Any uncertainty surrounding the passage often raises fears of supply disruptions, market instability and spikes in energy prices.

Analysts believe that a successful agreement could potentially reduce regional tensions and offer greater predictability to global energy markets. However, they caution that unresolved political and strategic differences may continue to pose challenges before any final settlement is reached.
International observers are closely monitoring developments, with many viewing the outcome of the negotiations as critical to broader Middle East stability. The coming weeks are expected to be crucial in determining whether diplomatic engagement can successfully ease long-standing tensions and reassure global markets.
