June 17, 2026 | Pune: Air India Express has commenced daily direct flight services between Pune and Amritsar, marking a major expansion in domestic connectivity and offering travellers a faster and more convenient option between Maharashtra and Punjab. The inaugural flight departed from Pune on June 15, officially launching the new route aimed at serving leisure travellers, pilgrims, students, and business passengers.

The newly introduced direct service will operate every day, departing Pune at 1:20 am and arriving in Amritsar at 4:10 am. The return flight from Amritsar will leave at 5:00 am and reach Pune at 7:50 am. The airline said the route is designed to simplify travel and eliminate the need for connecting flights between the two culturally significant cities.

Amritsar, often regarded as the spiritual capital of Punjab, attracts millions of visitors annually due to landmarks such as the revered Golden Temple, the historic Jallianwala Bagh memorial, and the Attari-Wagah Border ceremony. The city is also celebrated for its culinary heritage and vibrant Punjabi culture, making it a major attraction for domestic and international tourists.

Pune, known as Maharashtra’s cultural and educational hub, combines historical significance with rapid urban growth. The city houses iconic sites including Shaniwar Wada, Aga Khan Palace, and Sinhagad Fort, while also emerging as a leading centre for information technology, manufacturing, education, and entrepreneurship.

With the addition of the Pune-Amritsar route, Air India Express now operates nearly 105 weekly flights from Pune, directly connecting the city to 12 destinations, including Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates. From Amritsar, the airline currently operates 24 weekly flights connecting the city with destinations including Delhi, Dubai, Pune, and Sharjah.

Air India Express stated that passengers can book tickets and additional services such as hot meals and priority boarding through its website, mobile application, and authorised booking platforms as the airline continues to expand its domestic and international network.
