Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Friday visited the Palkhi Vitthal Temple in Bhavani Peth, Pune, where he offered prayers at the sacred Padukas of Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj as part of the ongoing Ashadhi Wari celebrations. The Chief Minister also performed the traditional Palkhi pooja, marking his participation in one of Maharashtra’s most revered spiritual traditions.
During the visit, the temple committee felicitated the Chief Minister in the presence of religious leaders, public representatives and senior government officials. Addressing devotees and Warkaris gathered at the temple, Fadnavis conveyed his heartfelt wishes to the lakhs of pilgrims undertaking the annual foot pilgrimage to Pandharpur, describing the Wari as a symbol of Maharashtra’s rich spiritual heritage, devotion and social unity.
Several dignitaries accompanied the Chief Minister during the ceremony, including Higher and Technical Education Minister Chandrakant Patil, Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol, Mayor Manjusha Nagpure, Minister of State Madhuri Misal, MLA Hemant Rasane, Divisional Commissioner Sheetal Teli-Ugale, District Collector Jitendra Dudi and trustees of the Shri Dnyaneshwar Maharaj Sansthan and the Palkhi Vitthal Temple.
A large number of devotees assembled at the temple to witness the rituals and seek blessings before the Palkhi’s onward journey to Pandharpur. The atmosphere resonated with devotional chants of “Vitthal Vitthal” and “Dnyanoba Tukaram,” reflecting the spiritual fervour that accompanies the centuries-old Wari tradition every year.
The Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj Palkhi, which had arrived in Pune a day earlier, continues its traditional journey towards Pandharpur for Ashadhi Ekadashi, drawing lakhs of Warkaris from across Maharashtra. The annual pilgrimage remains one of the state’s largest religious gatherings, symbolising faith, equality and devotion.
