Monsoon Set for Strong Comeback in Pune From July 18 After Dry Spell, IMD and Weather Experts Indicate

Pune | July 14, 2026
Pune and its surrounding metropolitan region are expected to witness a significant revival of monsoon activity from July 18, bringing increased rainfall, thunderstorms and cooler weather after several days of warm and relatively dry conditions.
After experiencing a brief lull in rainfall, Pune is likely to see a fresh spell of monsoon showers beginning Saturday, July 18, according to the latest forecast from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Pune. The forecast has also been supported by meteorological analysis shared by Dr. Anupam Kashyapi, former Head of Weather Forecasting at IMD Pune, indicating that the southwest monsoon is set to regain strength over western Maharashtra.
The current weather pattern has been marked by warm daytime temperatures, high humidity and only isolated showers across Pune city and adjoining areas. However, weather conditions are expected to undergo a noticeable change over the weekend as cloud cover increases and rainfall activity intensifies across the Pune Metropolitan Region, including Pimpri-Chinchwad and nearby localities.
The forecast suggests that light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds is likely from Saturday onwards. The active spell is expected to continue into early next week, bringing a welcome respite from the prevailing heat while improving overall rainfall across the region.
The recent weak phase of the monsoon had raised concerns over below-normal rainfall during a crucial period of the season. A sustained revival could contribute positively to reservoir inflows, groundwater recharge and agricultural activities in Pune district and surrounding parts of western Maharashtra.

Weather experts have cautioned that rainfall intensity may vary across different localities, with some areas receiving intermittent showers while others could experience moderate spells. Residents have been advised to stay updated through official IMD weather bulletins and exercise caution while travelling during periods of heavy rain, thunderstorms or reduced visibility.
With the southwest monsoon expected to regain momentum, Pune is likely to witness a return to more typical July weather conditions, offering relief to residents and supporting the region’s water resources during the ongoing monsoon season.
