Southwest Monsoon Withdraws from Maharashtra as Rainy Season Comes to an End
The IMD confirms the withdrawal of the southwest monsoon from Maharashtra on October 8, two days before its normal date, as drier and warmer weather sets in.
PUNE: Maharashtra has officially moved out of the southwest monsoon season, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) confirming the withdrawal of the monsoon from the entire state on October 8, 2026.
The withdrawal took place two days ahead of the normal date of October 10, marking the end of the four-month rainy season across Maharashtra.
The monsoon’s retreat is expected to bring predominantly dry weather to Pune and other parts of the state, with daytime temperatures likely to remain elevated in the coming days.
Pune has already been experiencing warmer conditions following the early retreat of the monsoon. The changing weather pattern signals a transition towards the post-monsoon period, when rainfall generally decreases and daytime heat can become more noticeable.
The end of the monsoon also brings renewed attention to rainfall distribution and water availability across Maharashtra, particularly in areas that recorded below-normal precipitation during the season.
Residents can expect a gradual shift towards hotter and drier conditions, although local weather conditions may vary across different parts of the state.
