Actress Neelam Shirke officially withdrew her nomination from the Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Chitrapat Mahamandal elections amid mounting political allegations, throwing her electoral support entirely behind veteran actress Varsha Usgaonkar

May 27, 2026 | Kolhapur: The highly anticipated electoral race for the Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Chitrapat Mahamandal (ABMCM) has intensified dramatically following a high-profile withdrawal. On Tuesday, actress Neelam Shirke officially retracted her nomination from the actress category through the online administrative portal, marking the first day of the withdrawal process. Her sudden exit has immediately sparked widespread speculation across both political and cinematic circles in Maharashtra.

Out of the 60 valid nomination forms scrutinized for the upcoming industry polls, Shirke’s application was the sole withdrawal on the opening day. This significant decision arrives against the backdrop of mounting political friction and serious public allegations. Neelam Shirke is the wife of the State Industries Minister, Uday Samant. Recently, prominent leader Sushma Andhare publicly accused the ruling establishment of misusing government machinery and administrative influence to sway the cinematic corporation’s electoral process.

These accusations compounded earlier grievances voiced by veteran actor Vijay Patkar, who openly alleged that immense political pressure and tactical maneuvering were overshadowing the standard application procedures. In response to this escalating crossfire of allegations, Shirke opted to gracefully step down, announcing her unwavering support for veteran actress Varsha Usgaonkar.

The ABMCM election remains a crucial administrative event for the regional entertainment industry. According to the official electoral schedule, 3,403 registered voters will cast their ballots to elect representatives for 17 available administrative seats. With the final deadline for the withdrawal of applications formally set for May 28, the industry eagerly watches to see if more candidates will step back. Voting is scheduled to take place on June 7, with the much-awaited vote counting and final result declaration slated for June 8.
