Bulldozer Action Demolishes Trinamool Office
A bulldozer-led demolition of structures linked to the Trinamool Congress in West Bengal has triggered a fresh political controversy amid rising tensions following the 2026 Assembly election results.

Fresh political tensions erupted in West Bengal after bulldozers demolished a Trinamool Congress-linked office structure and a controversial clock tower in separate incidents, intensifying the ongoing war of words between the BJP and TMC.
One of the major incidents unfolded near Kolkata’s historic New Market area, where a crowd allegedly accompanied by bulldozers targeted structures associated with the Trinamool Congress shortly after the Assembly election results. According to reports, the TMC office near the market area was heavily damaged during the incident, triggering panic among local traders and forcing several shops to shut temporarily.
Trinamool Congress leaders strongly condemned the action and accused BJP supporters of carrying out “bulldozer politics” in the state. Senior TMC leaders including Derek O’Brien and Mahua Moitra alleged that the demolition was carried out in the presence of security personnel and claimed the action reflected growing political aggression following the change in power in West Bengal.
However, local residents and some traders disputed the allegations, claiming the demolished structures were unauthorised constructions. Police later intensified patrolling in the area to prevent further escalation and maintain law and order.

In another significant development, the Kolkata Municipal Corporation demolished the controversial Garia clock tower nearly 11 months after the Calcutta High Court ordered its removal. The structure, built in 2023 on a club playground without permission, had become the centre of a prolonged legal battle after local residents and club members challenged its legality in court.
The demolition was finally carried out using a massive crane after repeated delays. Local residents welcomed the move, claiming the structure had occupied a large section of the playground and disrupted community activities. The incidents come amid major political changes in West Bengal following the BJP’s historic victory in the 2026 Assembly elections, which ended the Trinamool Congress’ 15-year rule in the state.
