The Pune Municipal Corporation has issued an official advisory warning residents against extortionate charges for new water connections, urging them to hire only licensed plumbers.
May 18, 2026 | Pune: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has issued a stern advisory to the residents of Mohammedwadi following multiple reports of citizens being extorted for massive sums of up to ₹50,000 under the pretext of provisioning new water connections. This administrative warning comes ahead of the operationalization of newly constructed water storage tanks in the area, which are set to significantly stabilize the local water distribution network.

To completely eliminate illegal middle-men and arbitrary overcharging, the municipal body has published a comprehensive directory featuring 575 registered, licensed plumbers on its official website. The civic administration has explicitly clarified that housing societies possessing regular, pre-existing water connections are absolutely not required to secure new connections. Furthermore, officials have established a grievance mechanism, directing citizens to lodge formal written complaints against any errant licensed plumbers at the Executive Engineer’s Office, Lashkar Water Supply Division, located near St. Bishop High School on General Bhagat Marg.

The administrative push for structured distribution is backed by extensive infrastructural upgrades in the eastern suburbs. To resolve chronic low-pressure grievances, the PMC has erected three new water storage tanks near the Dorabjee Paradise area. The expanded grid will successfully supply robust, high-pressure water to nearly 1,200 to 1,500 housing societies and apartment complexes, shifting the operational load away from the over-extended Ramtekdi and Bakri Hill reservoirs.
The PMC has categorically urged citizens to reject all illegal financial demands, follow the official rate cards, and promptly report any fraudulent activities to protect public utility operations.
