Chinese artificial intelligence startup Moonshot AI has introduced Kimi K3, a groundbreaking open-weight large language model featuring 2.8 trillion parameters, making it the largest AI model of its kind released publicly. The launch marks another significant milestone in China’s rapidly advancing AI sector and is expected to intensify competition with leading American AI companies such as OpenAI, Anthropic and Google.
Kimi K3 has been designed using a Mixture-of-Experts (MoE) architecture, allowing only a portion of its parameters to be activated for each task. This approach significantly improves computational efficiency while maintaining high performance in reasoning, coding, mathematics and knowledge-intensive tasks. The model also supports an impressive one-million-token context window, enabling it to process exceptionally long documents and complex conversations.
