NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar) chief Sharad Pawar credited Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation to dialogue between the Centre and student protesters over the NEET paper leak, calling it a victory for youth power and democracy.
New Delhi, 25th July 2026: Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) president Sharad Pawar said on Saturday that Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation was the outcome of engagement between the Centre and students who had been protesting for weeks over the NEET-UG paper leak and other alleged irregularities in the education system.
Taking to X, Pawar praised the resolve of young protesters who sustained a 28-day sit-in at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar, saying their persistence had pushed the government to respond to long-pending demands. He described the agitation as a fight waged fearlessly against injustice, one that ultimately compelled the Centre to accept moral responsibility.
Pawar called the development a significant win for the collective strength of the country’s youth, framing it as proof of democracy’s ability to respond to sustained, peaceful public pressure. His remarks came shortly after Pradhan’s resignation was formally announced, ending weeks of speculation over the minister’s position amid mounting criticism of the National Testing Agency’s handling of competitive examinations.
The NEET-UG controversy had snowballed since irregularities first surfaced, with allegations ranging from question paper leaks to unusually high numbers of perfect scores from select examination centres. Opposition parties, including the NCP (SP), had for months demanded accountability from the ministry, arguing that lapses in the examination process had jeopardised the futures of lakhs of students.
Other NCP (SP) leaders also welcomed the resignation, noting that it followed sustained pressure from peaceful protesters, students and opposition parties, and congratulated those who had stayed the course through the prolonged demonstration.
The resignation marks a significant moment in the protracted controversy surrounding India’s medical entrance examination process, which has drawn scrutiny over the past two years following repeated allegations of malpractice and administrative failures at the National Testing Agency.
