A ceremonial flag hoisting took place at Kalaram Temple in Nashik’s Panchavati with a 21-foot flagpole, attended by top leaders, marking a symbolic spiritual and cultural gathering ahead of Kumbh preparations.
Panchavati, Nashik | 08 May 2026: A major religious ceremony was held at the historic Kalaram Temple where a towering 21-foot brass flagpole was inaugurated and a saffron flag was ceremonially hoisted. The event took place in a devotional atmosphere filled with chants and rituals, accompanied by light rainfall that added to the spiritual setting.
The ceremony was attended by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and former President Ram Nath Kovind, along with other dignitaries including officials linked to the upcoming Kumbh preparations. The flag hoisting and rituals were conducted in a symbolic manner, reflecting both religious tradition and cultural continuity.

The newly installed flagpole is made from panchdhatu (a blend of five metals), while the saffron flag measures 11 by 5 feet and features imagery associated with Lord Hanuman along with sacred symbols. The structure is considered a significant enhancement to the temple’s religious identity.
Officials stated that the event also symbolically marks the beginning of preparations for the upcoming Kumbh Mela, which is expected to attract millions of devotees to the region.During the event, Ram Nath Kovind highlighted the importance of social harmony and equality, stating that India’s development depends on unity and the removal of discrimination. He referenced historical struggles associated with temple entry and emphasized the value of constitutional equality and inclusiveness in modern society.

The temple, dedicated to Lord Ram, has deep historical and cultural significance and is a key spiritual landmark in Nashik. The ceremony also included traditional rituals and devotional chants, creating a strong religious atmosphere throughout the event.The occasion concluded with a grand evening aarti on the banks of the Godavari River, where devotees participated in prayers and spiritual offerings.
