India Meteorological Department predicts Rain
India Meteorological Department predicts light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms across Maharashtra between April 18 and 20, bringing possible relief from rising temperatures in several regions.

April 18, 2026 | Pune :In a welcome development amid rising temperatures, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast rainfall across several parts of Maharashtra between April 18 and 20. The weather department has indicated that light to moderate showers accompanied by thunderstorms are likely in multiple districts, signaling a temporary shift in prevailing heatwave conditions.
According to officials, Pune is expected to receive rainfall on April 20, with skies likely to remain partly cloudy in the preceding days. The forecast also includes the possibility of thunder, lightning, and gusty winds reaching speeds of 30 to 40 kmph, which may impact normal activities in some areas.
District-wise predictions suggest rainfall activity beginning in Solapur and Dharashiv on April 18, extending to Latur and Nanded on April 19. By April 20, the weather system is expected to cover a wider region, including Pune, Satara, Ahilyanagar, Buldhana, Akola, Amravati, Parbhani, Hingoli, and Nanded.
Meteorologists attribute this sudden change in weather to a wind discontinuity extending from northeast Madhya Pradesh to the Gulf of Mannar, along with an upper-air anticyclonic circulation over Karnataka and adjoining parts of Maharashtra. These conditions are conducive to the formation of rain-bearing clouds and localized thunderstorms.

Despite the anticipated rainfall, heatwave conditions are likely to persist in parts of Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, and Vidarbha. Authorities have issued yellow alerts in some regions, urging residents to remain cautious during extreme weather conditions.
Pune has been experiencing high temperatures in recent days, causing discomfort among residents. The expected rainfall is likely to bring short-term relief, although experts caution that the overall heat conditions may continue in the coming weeks.
