Pune Police organised a large-scale awareness programme under the ‘Secure Horizon for Youth’ initiative, urging students and citizens to stay away from substance abuse while promoting a safe, healthy and responsible society.

The Pune City Police organised a comprehensive drug awareness programme under its “Secure Horizon for Youth” initiative at Ganesh Kala Krida Manch on July 16, bringing together senior police officials, education authorities, principals, teachers and students to strengthen the fight against substance abuse among the youth.
The event was held with the objective of creating awareness about the harmful effects of narcotic substances, encouraging a drug-free lifestyle and promoting collective responsibility in building a safer society. The programme witnessed the participation of Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar, Joint Commissioner of Police Sanjay Darade, Additional Commissioner of Police (Administration) Sanjay Patil, Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Tejaswi Satpute, senior police officers, officials of the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF), education department representatives and heads of educational institutions.
Addressing the gathering, Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar appealed to young people to remain vigilant against drug abuse and become active partners in creating a safe and responsible society. He emphasised that educational institutions, parents and law enforcement agencies must work together to prevent substance abuse and protect the future of the younger generation.
Officials from the Anti-Narcotics Task Force delivered detailed presentations on the growing threat posed by narcotic drugs, their social and psychological consequences, preventive measures and the role of citizens in reporting drug-related activities. The sessions also highlighted the importance of awareness, early intervention and community participation in tackling the menace.
Education department representatives and academicians also addressed students, stressing the importance of discipline, values and positive life choices alongside academic excellence. A short awareness film depicting the adverse effects of drug addiction was screened during the programme to sensitise the audience.
The event concluded with participants taking a pledge to remain free from substance abuse and motivate others to reject narcotics. Pune Police said the “Secure Horizon for Youth” initiative will continue through sustained outreach programmes, awareness campaigns and collaboration with educational institutions to build a drug-free, secure and socially responsible community.
