Indian Railways has introduced a new initiative to improve passenger comfort by providing blanket covers in AC coaches. This move addresses concerns about the cleanliness of shared blankets.
Jaipur|October 18, 2025: In a significant step towards enhancing passenger comfort, Indian Railways has started providing blanket covers in AC coaches. This initiative aims to address long-standing concerns regarding the cleanliness of shared blankets.
Traditionally, passengers received clean bed sheets and pillow covers, but blankets were often reused by multiple travelers, leading to hygiene concerns. To mitigate this, the railways have introduced individual blanket covers, ensuring that each passenger has access to a clean and hygienic blanket.
The new blanket covers feature traditional Sanganeri prints, adding a touch of cultural heritage to the travel experience. This initiative was launched as a pilot project on the Jaipur-Ahmedabad (Asarwa) Express, with passengers receiving the new blanket covers in a packet.
Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw inaugurated this facility at the Khati Pura railway station in Jaipur. He emphasized that while blankets have been a part of the railway system for years, passenger concerns about cleanliness prompted the introduction of this new facility.
Following the success of this pilot project, Indian Railways plans to extend this service to other trains, ensuring a more comfortable and hygienic journey for all passengers.
