Injury Blow for India: Suryansh Shedge Replaces Nitish Kumar Reddy for Ireland and England T20I Series

India have suffered a setback ahead of their white-ball tour of the United Kingdom, with all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy ruled out through injury. Young Mumbai all-rounder Suryansh Shedge has earned his maiden national call-up as replacement.

The Indian cricket team has been forced into a late squad change ahead of its upcoming T20I assignments against Ireland and England after all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy was ruled out with an injury. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has named promising Mumbai all-rounder Suryansh Shedge as his replacement for both series.

According to the BCCI, Reddy reported discomfort in his left quadriceps following the third ODI against Afghanistan earlier this month. Subsequent medical assessments recommended a period of rehabilitation, forcing the 23-year-old out of the upcoming tour. The injury comes as a significant setback for India, which was expected to rely on Reddy’s pace-bowling all-round capabilities in overseas conditions.

The vacancy has opened the door for Suryansh Shedge, who receives his first senior India call-up after impressing selectors with a string of strong performances in domestic and India A cricket. The batting all-rounder recently scored 147 runs in five matches for India A during the tri-series in Sri Lanka and also contributed with the ball, strengthening his credentials for national selection.

Shedge has been one of the emerging names in Indian cricket over the past two seasons. He played a key role in Mumbai’s successful domestic campaigns and continued his rise with impactful performances in franchise cricket. His ability to accelerate the scoring rate in the middle and lower order, combined with his medium-pace bowling, has earned praise from selectors and coaches alike.

India will begin the tour with a two-match T20I series against Ireland in Belfast on June 26 and 28 before travelling to England for a five-match T20I series in July. The upcoming fixtures will provide Shedge with a valuable opportunity to establish himself at the international level while India assesses its all-round options ahead of a packed cricket calendar.
