Iran Breaches Israel’s Air Defences, Missile Strikes Leave Over 300 Injured
Iran launched ballistic missile attacks on southern Israel, injuring over 300 people and breaching air defences, escalating tensions amid ongoing conflict and raising concerns over regional stability

June 29 | Arad In a major escalation of hostilities in West Asia, Iran launched a series of ballistic missile strikes on Israel, breaching its air defence systems and leaving more than 300 people injured in southern regions. The attacks targeted cities including Arad and Dimona, both of which suffered significant damage to residential infrastructure. According to medical officials and local authorities, over 300 individuals sustained injuries, including several children. Emergency services reported that at least 84 people were wounded in Arad alone, with around 10 in critical condition. Earlier, a separate strike in Dimona injured 33 people. Rescue teams and security forces were deployed immediately to the affected areas, where buildings were partially destroyed and large craters formed due to the impact of the missiles.
The strikes come amid heightened tensions following recent military actions involving Israel and the United States. Iranian state media described the attack as a retaliatory response to alleged strikes on its Natanz nuclear facility. Notably, Dimona houses one of Israel’s key nuclear installations, adding to the strategic significance of the attack. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu acknowledged the severity of the situation, stating that the country had endured a particularly difficult phase of conflict. Meanwhile, questions have been raised domestically over the effectiveness of Israel’s missile defence systems, which were reportedly unable to intercept all incoming threats.

Criticism has also emerged from within Israel, with peace activists demanding accountability from the government. Yariv Oppenheimer of the Peace Now organisation questioned earlier claims that Iran’s military capabilities had been significantly weakened, calling for transparency over the defence failures. As the situation continues to evolve, concerns are mounting globally over the risk of further escalation and its broader implications for regional security and energy stability
