Pimpri-Chinchwad Police to Get Two New Stations as City Expands Rapidly
Chakan and Mahalunge MIDC police stations to be split; Pimpri-Chinchwad to have 24 police stations for better law and order management.
Pune, October 17, 2025: The Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissionerate is set to undergo a major expansion with the decision to split the existing Chakan and Mahalunge MIDC police stations into two separate stations each. This strategic move will raise the total number of police stations in Pimpri-Chinchwad from 22 to 24, aiming to strengthen law enforcement, improve response times, and ensure better management of crime in the city’s rapidly growing industrial and residential zones. The proposal, approved by a state-level committee, comes amid the area’s rapid population and infrastructure growth, which has significantly increased the pressure on the existing police force.
Alongside the establishment of new police stations, the state government has sanctioned three new Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) posts and six new Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) positions. This administrative expansion will help the Commissionerate manage its widening jurisdiction more efficiently. Currently, Pimpri-Chinchwad Police operates through three zones—each headed by a DCP—along with specialized branches for crime, traffic, and headquarters. With the restructuring, a fourth zone is likely to be created to distribute the workload evenly and ensure more effective supervision across the newly formed regions.
Senior police officials have stated that the division of Chakan and Mahalunge MIDC police stations will bring greater operational efficiency. The industrial belts of Chakan and Mahalunge have witnessed an extraordinary surge in residential development and industrial activity in recent years, including the establishment of manufacturing units, logistics centers, and housing complexes. These developments have led to an increased demand for a stronger, localized police presence to maintain law and order and ensure swift handling of incidents such as thefts, road mishaps, and industrial disputes.

For citizens, the expansion will translate into more accessible police services. Shorter distances to police stations will make it easier to file complaints or complete verification procedures. Police personnel, in turn, will benefit from smaller jurisdictional boundaries, allowing for focused patrolling, proactive crime prevention, and quicker response to emergency calls. The move is also expected to reduce the workload currently borne by officers in Chakan and Mahalunge MIDC, where vast jurisdictions have often led to delays in response and case follow-ups.
The implementation phase is expected to begin soon, with the finalization of jurisdiction maps, infrastructure planning, and personnel assignments. According to officials, the process will be carried out in stages to ensure smooth transition and operational readiness. Once completed, Pimpri-Chinchwad will have a total of 24 police stations, marking a milestone in its journey toward becoming one of Maharashtra’s best-managed and most responsive urban policing networks.
The decision to split these police stations underscores the administration’s proactive approach toward ensuring safety and public order in the face of urban expansion. As Pimpri-Chinchwad continues to grow as a major industrial and residential hub, this move will help create a more responsive and citizen-friendly policing environment. The restructuring reflects a commitment to improving transparency, accessibility, and accountability within the city’s police force—ensuring that residents and industries alike can rely on faster, more efficient law enforcement in the years ahead.
