PMC Demolishes 7 Illegal RMC Plants in Lohegaon; Pritam Khandve Detained After Altercation

16 April 2026 Pune: In a major anti-encroachment drive, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) carried out a pre-dawn demolition operation in the Lohegaon–Khandve Nagar area, razing seven illegal Ready Mix Concrete (RMC) plants. The operation was conducted around 2 am on Wednesday near Mahalaxmi Lawns in Lohegaon, as part of PMC’s intensified crackdown on unauthorized constructions across the city. The drive was carried out under the supervision of Additional Commissioner Pavneet Kaur and Deputy Commissioner Somnath Bankar.
Officials said the early morning timing helped avoid major resistance during the demolition process. However, the operation took a controversial turn when Pritam Khandve, husband of corporator Dr. Shreyas Khandve, allegedly attempted to intervene. According to civic officials, Khandve tried to obstruct the demolition and engaged in a heated argument with encroachment inspectors. He reportedly rushed towards officials, prompting police personnel present at the site to intervene and detain him. He was later taken to the police station.

Deputy Commissioner Somnath Bankar clarified that while there was a verbal altercation during the operation, no physical assault on PMC officials took place. Meanwhile, Pritam Khandve denied the allegations, claiming that the civic body carried out the demolition without prior notice. He maintained that any physical contact was accidental and further alleged that he was detained and taken around for nearly two hours despite the police station being located nearby. The incident has sparked a debate over the demolition drive and the handling of the situation, even as PMC continues its action against illegal constructions in Pune.
