Pune: With Ganeshotsav celebrations underway, a large number of residents are heading to their hometowns to celebrate the festival with their families. The sharp rise in travel demand has, however, made the journey more expensive for many passengers, particularly those relying on private buses.

With several trains operating at full capacity and railway tickets becoming difficult to secure, private buses have emerged as an alternative for travellers leaving Pune. The increased demand has resulted in a significant rise in private bus fares, with passengers reportedly being charged up to two or three times the usual rates on some routes.

The situation is particularly noticeable on routes connecting Pune with the Konkan region and other parts of Maharashtra, where Ganeshotsav traditionally triggers a major annual travel rush.

Many passengers who could not secure confirmed railway tickets are now turning to private bus operators. The limited availability of seats, combined with the festival-season surge in demand, has contributed to higher ticket prices.
