Pune Zilla Parishad has directed completion of all road asphalting works by May 25, focusing on timely fund utilisation, infrastructure upgrades, and improved services in education and healthcare sectors.

March 24 | Pune In a bid to ensure smoother mobility during the monsoon, the Pune Zilla Parishad has directed its construction department to complete all road asphalting works across the district by May 25. Zilla Parishad President Veerdhaval Jagdale announced the decision during a press conference, stressing the need for timely execution to avoid inconvenience to citizens and maintain the quality of work during the rainy season. Highlighting concerns over underutilisation of funds, Jagdale noted that only around 60 percent of the recently approved ₹301 crore budget had been spent so far. He said the administration will now adopt a stricter approach to ensure that the entire allocated budget is effectively utilised within the stipulated time frame, preventing delays in development projects.
The district administration is also prioritising improvements in education and healthcare. Schools with high student enrolment will be upgraded into “model schools” to provide better infrastructure and quality education, particularly in rural areas. Additionally, the Zilla Parishad has decided to promote renewable energy by installing solar power systems in 40 primary health centres and 300 schools. This initiative aims to reduce electricity costs while ensuring uninterrupted power supply for essential services.

Officials further indicated that a supplementary budget will be presented in the second week of April to incorporate new development proposals and accelerate pending works. The move is expected to provide additional financial support for ongoing and planned projects across the district. Meanwhile, the issue of vacant posts in the education department has also come under focus. With four group education officer positions currently unfilled and more retirements expected in May, the administration acknowledged the growing workload and assured efforts to address the staffing gap at the earliest. The administration’s proactive measures are aimed at ensuring efficient governance and uninterrupted development ahead of the monsoon season.
