While neighbors in Ahilyanagar district received ₹118 crore in insurance, Sangamner was completely excluded, sparking allegations of political bias and threats of intense agitation by local farmers

SANGAMNER | 09 May, 2026: An atmosphere of severe discontent has gripped the farming community in Sangamner taluka following the release of the state government’s crop insurance distribution list. While the Ahilyanagar district was sanctioned a total of ₹118 crore, Sangamner made history for the wrong reasons by receiving zero percent of the insurance amount. This exclusion has left thousands of farmers without financial relief, leading to accusations that the administration is intentionally sidelining the region due to its political leanings.

The regional breakdown of the approved funds shows significant payouts to neighboring areas: Rahata received ₹13 crore, Kopargaon ₹9 crore, Akole ₹1 crore, Shrirampur ₹17 crore, and Rahuri ₹6 crore. Farmers in Sangamner feel cheated, noting that under the previous leadership of former minister Balasaheb Thorat, the taluka consistently received timely assistance and insurance coverage. Anand Varshe, President of the Kisan Congress, criticized the current administration, stating that the geographical diversity of the taluka comprising the Pathar, Pravara, and Talegaon belts warrants inclusive support that has been conspicuously absent for the past year and a half.

Taluka Agriculture Officer Reja Bodkhe explained that the eligibility was determined through a modern satellite-based crop inspection system. According to the official review of the last five years of data and current satellite imagery, the crops in Sangamner did not meet the technical criteria for a payout this season. However, this technical explanation has done little to soothe the anger of local cultivators, who argue that the ground reality of crop loss is being ignored by high-tech monitoring tools.

Prominent local figures and veteran farmers have issued a stern warning to the administration, suggesting that the “cruel joke” played on the farming community will lead to massive protests across all villages. They allege that developmental works in the taluka are being hampered by political friction and corruption. As the agricultural crisis deepens, the farmers of Sangamner demand a manual re-evaluation of their losses, insisting that they will not remain silent while neighboring regions receive aid for similar climatic challenges.
