Sinhagad Road Police Nab Man With Weapons in ‘Operation Flush Out’, Major Crime Averted

April 18, 2026 | Pune: In a proactive crackdown under ‘Operation Flush Out’, Sinhagad Road Police in Pune apprehended a youth carrying dangerous weapons, potentially preventing a serious crime in the area.

The operation was carried out on April 16, 2026, by a police team led by Police Sub-Inspector Santosh Bhandwalkar, along with constables Vikas Bandal, Sandeep Kamble, Tanaji Sagar, and Sagar Shedge, who were on preventive patrol duty in the Sinhagad Road jurisdiction.

During the patrol, constables Tanaji Sagar and Sandeep Kamble received a tip-off from a reliable informant about a suspicious individual waiting near Dhondiba Niwas building in Vadgaon Budruk. The suspect was reportedly carrying a white bag containing a weapon and was dressed in a blue shirt and black pants.

Acting swiftly, the team informed their seniors and proceeded to the location. Upon reaching the spot, police noticed a man standing in the parking area. As soon as he spotted the officers, he attempted to flee but was quickly chased down and detained by the team.

Upon questioning, the accused identified himself as Sanket Balaji Gaikwad (27), a resident of Gosavi Vasti, Vadgaon Budruk, Pune. During a personal search, police recovered an iron sickle (koyta) worth approximately ₹800 from his possession.

Further investigation, including a search at his residence, led to the seizure of additional weapons, including a sharp iron weapon and an iron sword. Based on these findings, the accused was taken into custody.

A case has been registered against him at Sinhagad Road Police Station under Crime No. 154/2026, invoking relevant sections of the Arms Act and Maharashtra Police Act.

The investigation is currently being handled by Police Constable Vikas Bandal.

The operation was conducted under the guidance of senior officials, including Additional Commissioner of Police (West Region) Rajesh Bansode, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 3) Sambhaji Kadam, and Assistant Commissioner of Police Ajay Parmar. Senior Police Inspector Vinay Patankar and Police Inspector (Crime) Sameer Gaikwad supervised the execution of the operation.

Police officials stated that the timely action helped avert a possible criminal incident, reinforcing the importance of preventive policing and intelligence-based operations in maintaining law and order.
