Tragedy in Solapur: 15-Year-Old Boy Crushed to Death by Pitch Roller at Cricket Camp

A heart-wrenching incident has sent shockwaves through the sports community in Maharashtra after a 15-year-old boy was killed in a freak accident involving a heavy pitch roller at a summer cricket coaching camp in Barshi, Solapur district.

The victim, identified as Aarav Chaudhary, lost his life on the morning of May 30 while attending a cricket training session. According to police reports, the tragedy unfolded as ground staff and students were preparing the pitch for practice. In a move that has drawn widespread condemnation, the coaching staff allegedly instructed Aarav and several other young students to manually pull a massive, heavy iron roller used to flatten the cricket surface.

Preliminary investigations reveal that as the children were struggling to move the heavy equipment, Aarav lost his footing and fell. He was immediately crushed under the weight of the roller, suffering fatal injuries that resulted in his death on the spot.

The incident has sparked an intense debate regarding the safety protocols and accountability of privately run sports coaching centers. Authorities have expressed disbelief that minors were tasked with such hazardous manual labor. “Allowing children to handle heavy, dangerous machinery without adult supervision and proper safety measures is a grave act of negligence,” a senior police official stated.

In response to the outcry, the Barshi City Police have registered a case under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which pertains to culpable homicide not amounting to murder. The charges have been leveled against two cricket coaches and the management of the concerned cricket association. Investigators are currently probing whether basic safety guidelines were entirely disregarded during the camp’s operations.

As the community mourns the loss of a young life, the tragedy serves as a grim reminder of the urgent need for stringent safety standards in sports training facilities. The police are continuing their investigation to ensure that those responsible for this fatal oversight are held accountable for their actions.
