Former MLA Mohan Joshi requests Pune Municipal Commissioner to suspend road digging work during Diwali to ease traffic congestion and ensure public safety.

Pune | October 10, 2025 — Former Maharashtra MLA and senior Congress leader Mohan Joshi has urged the Pune Municipal Commissioner to halt ongoing road digging projects during the Diwali festival. Joshi emphasized that the festive season sees increased shopping activity, leading to heightened traffic congestion. He expressed concerns that ongoing construction work could exacerbate these issues, posing safety risks to the public.

Leading a delegation that included former minister Ramesh Bagwe, Joshi met with the Municipal Commissioner to present their case. The delegation highlighted that while projects like the installation of CCTV cables and the development of cycle tracks are essential, their execution during the peak shopping period could inconvenience residents and visitors. They requested that such activities be postponed until after the festive season.

The delegation further pointed out that the planned 28-kilometer stretch for CCTV cable installation and other infrastructure projects could lead to significant disruptions. They urged the municipal authorities to consider the public’s comfort and safety during this busy period.

The Pune Municipal Corporation has yet to respond to these requests. As Diwali approaches, residents and businesses hope for a resolution that balances development needs with public convenience.
