ACB Catches Education Department Official Accepting ₹25,000 Bribe in Satara
Senior assistant from Satara’s education department trapped by ACB red-handed accepting ₹25,000 to approve retired teacher’s promotion.
Satara | October30 2025: In a recent sting operation, the Anti‑Corruption Bureau, Pune (ACB) nabbed a senior assistant from the education department of the Zilla Parishad in Satara for allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹25,000. The accused, identified as Vaishali Shankar Mane (age 40), is said to have demanded the money in exchange for processing a selection-grade approval order for a retired teacher who had submitted his service proposal.
The complainant—a 62-year-old retired teacher—had approached the department through the proper channel, expecting routine approval of his 24-year service record. Instead, the accused allegedly told him that the approval could be expedited for the sum of ₹25,000. After the demand was made on October 27, the ACB laid a trap the next day and caught the official red-handed at the office of the Education Officer (Secondary Education Department, Zilla Parishad, Satara) while accepting the cash.
Following the arrest, a case was registered under the relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 at Satara City Police Station. The operation was led by ACB inspectors and supervised by senior officers from the Pune region.
This incident highlights the ongoing issue of corruption in administrative processes, especially in public-sector employment approvals and pensions. The ACB has called upon citizens to report any such demands via its helpline and warned that stringent legal action will follow against officials caught in similar acts.
