A severe cold-wave alert has been issued for Maharashtra; minimum temperatures could plummet to around 9-14 °C inland on Nov 13 while coastal zones will feel a distinct chill.

Pune | November 13, 2025: Maharashtra is expected to witness a pronounced cold wave on November 13, with meteorologists warning of a significant drop in minimum temperatures across several districts. Dry air, clear night skies and cold winds sweeping in from the north have combined to create ideal conditions for rapid overnight cooling, pushing the state into one of its coldest phases of the season so far.

In the Pune region, the minimum temperature is likely to fall to around 14°C, while daytime conditions will remain comparatively pleasant at about 30°C. Northern Maharashtra, especially districts such as Jalgaon, Nashik and Dhule, may experience even sharper dips, with minimums projected to settle between 9°C and 11°C, marking one of the season’s first strong cold-wave signatures. In Marathwada and Vidarbha, temperatures are expected to drop to 12°C–14°C, bringing crisp mornings and noticeably colder nights.

Coastal areas and the Konkan belt, including Mumbai, are also bracing for cooler conditions. While the coastline will not experience extreme cold, minimum temperatures between 16°C and 18°C are predicted—significantly lower than what is typical for this period. Experts attribute this overall drop to the absence of cloud cover, which allows heat to escape during the night, and to the flow of colder winds from northern India that intensify the chill.

Residents, particularly senior citizens, children and individuals with respiratory issues, have been advised to take precautions as the sudden cold may trigger health discomforts. Wearing layered clothing during mornings and evenings, maintaining proper indoor warmth and avoiding exposure to cold winds are recommended. Motorists travelling early in the day should remain cautious, as certain open or rural stretches may encounter mild fog or reduced visibility during peak cooling hours.

The drop in temperatures is also a matter of concern for farmers across the state. Crop varieties sensitive to lower temperatures may be affected, especially those in their growth or flowering stage. Farmers have been urged to protect crops and livestock during late-night and early-morning hours, as cold-wave conditions may stress vegetation and slow growth cycles.
