In a tragic accident on the Pune–Mangaon road, a Thar SUV plunged into a 500-foot deep gorge in Tamhini Ghat, Raigad district, leaving four people dead. Police and rescue teams are using drones to locate and recover the bodies.

Raigad|November 20,2025:Eyewitnesses suggest that the driver may have lost control of the vehicle while navigating a sharp bend. Officials say the SUV went off the road and fell into the steep valley below. The terrain in this part of the ghat is especially treacherous, making rescue efforts difficult.

Police Inspector Nivrutti Borade confirmed that four bodies have been located and are being brought up. The operation is in full swing, with emergency services coordinating their efforts using aerial support. Given the height and slope of the gorge, the recovery work is slow but steady.

As of now, the names and identities of the deceased are yet to be publicly confirmed. No official statement has been released on any survivors or whether there were more people in the vehicle, but sources say the car was likely en route from Pune toward the Konkan coast.

Authorities have initiated a detailed investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident  whether it was speeding, brake failure, or driver error. Meanwhile, locals and officials are calling for stricter safety measures on the dangerous ghat road, which is known for its mountain curves and frequent landslide risk during monsoon season.
