Eleven hardcore Maoists, including a senior MMC zone commander, surrendered to Gondia police, handing over weapons worth high bounties. Officials say the move weakens Maoist recruitment and influence across the tri-junction region.
Gondia| 29 November 2025: In a significant security breakthrough, 11 hardcore Maoists including a senior commander from the banned outfit’s MMC zone surrendered to Gondia police this week. The group, led by top cadre Vinod Sayanna alias “Anant”, handed over weapons and firearms as they laid down arms, marking a decisive success for law enforcement agencies
According to police reports, the surrendered cadres were active in the Darrekasa area of the Gondia–Balaghat–Rajnandgaon belt. Collectively, these 11 cadres carried a bounty worth ₹89 lakh. They included divisional committee members, area committee members, and key operatives involved in recruitment and militant activities in the Special Zonal Committee (SZC).
The surrendered group handed over a cache of weapons including an AK-47, an SLR rifle, an INSAS rifle, a .303 rifle, single-shot firearms, and various detonators. Police have seized all weapons and launched forensic analysis.
Deputy Inspector General of Police Ankit Goyal (Gadchiroli Range) said the surrender marks a major setback to Maoist influence in the region, especially weakening their mobility and recruitment capabilities in the tri-junction zone. “This development will dent the underground network severely,” he added.
This surrender comes amid an accelerated nationwide push by security forces to dismantle Left-Wing Extremist (LWE) networks, underlining growing success of government rehabilitation and surrender policies.
