The 14th Dalai Lama has won his first Grammy at age 90 for the spoken-word album Meditations, emphasizing peace, compassion, and collective responsibility for humanity
McLeodganj/Los Angeles | 03 February, 2026 : The 14th Dalai Lama, the revered Tibetan spiritual leader, has won his first-ever Grammy Award at age 90 in the Best Audio Book, Narration and Storytelling Recording category.
He received the honor for his spoken-word album Meditations: The Reflections of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, which blends his reflections on humanity, compassion, mindfulness, and environmental stewardship with music by international artists, including Rufus Wainwright, Maggie Rogers, Andra Day, and Indian classical maestro Amjad Ali Khan and his sons Amaan and Ayaan Ali Bangash.
The Dalai Lama stated that the award is not a personal achievement but a recognition of shared human responsibility, urging the world to embrace compassion and care for the environment for the benefit of all eight billion people on Earth.
Released in August 2025 to mark his 90th birthday, the album has received global praise for translating spiritual teachings into a rich audio experience. Tracks like Water and Peace address contemporary issues such as climate change and the importance of compassion.

Due to his age, the Dalai Lama could not attend the ceremony; the award was accepted on his behalf by collaborators and supporters. His office noted that the honor brings pride not just to Tibetans and Buddhists, but to humanity at large.
This Grammy adds to his array of international recognitions, including the Nobel Peace Prize and the Presidential Medal of Freedom, highlighting his influence in both spiritual and cultural spheres.
