Nashik Police Crack Theft Ring Masquerading as Officers, Arrest Two Skilled Suspects

Two men posing as police officers to defraud citizens have been arrested by Ambad Police in Nashik, recovering stolen gold and uncovering over 50 linked cases

Nashik | 25 February 2026: In a major operation led by Senior Police Inspector Jagvendra Singh Rajput of Ambad Police Station, Nashik police arrested Amjad Ali Akbar Ali (47) and Faiyaz Imtiaz Ansari (28) from Bhiwandi, Thane, who allegedly impersonated police officers to commit thefts across Maharashtra and Karnataka. The arrests follow instructions and guidance from Nashik Police Commissioner Sandeep Karnik, Deputy Commissioner Kishor Kale, and Additional Commissioner Sachin Bari to track criminals posing as law enforcement personnel.

The Operation

On 22 February 2026, police officer PO/2114 Mayur Pawar spotted two suspicious men riding a motorcycle near the Pathardi Phata area and initiated surveillance. After informing SPI Rajput, additional personnel were deployed to assist in the operation. The suspects attempted to escape via the Mumbai-Agra Highway, but a 30 km chase by the team including Sub-Inspector Vilas Padolkar, PO/1896 Ulhas Gangurde, PO/2547 Samadhan Shinde, PO/2391 Sandeep Bhure, PO/1566 Sagar Jadhav, and PO/2054 Sachin Karanje led to their capture near Ojhar Uddanpul. The suspects resisted arrest but were subdued.

Recovered Property

Police recovered approximately 5 tolas (≈58 grams) of gold jewelry linked to thefts at Mumbai Naka Police Station. Investigations revealed that since 2023, the suspects were involved in 58 cases, including:

  • 42 in Nashik city
  • 10 in Nashik rural areas
  • 5 in Dhule city
  • 1 in Karnataka

Gold jewelry worth ₹30 lakh (≈201 grams across 10 cases) has been recovered so far. The suspects are also wanted in connection with a police assault case at Betgeri Police Station, Gadag, Karnataka, dated 29 June 2024.

Investigation Highlights

The investigation relied heavily on CCTV analysis, careful study of the suspects’ movements, attire, vehicles, and body language. This meticulous work by PO/2114 Mayur Pawar under SPI Rajput’s guidance enabled accurate identification and arrest. The team continues to track additional accomplices.
