IMD issues yellow alert for heatwave conditions across 14 districts in Maharashtra on March 10 as temperatures rise sharply.

Pune, 10 March, 2026: Maharashtra is likely to witness heatwave-like conditions on March 10 as temperatures continue to rise across several regions. Weather authorities have issued a yellow alert for 14 districts, warning residents about unusually high daytime temperatures and the possibility of intense heat during afternoon hours. The alert covers parts of Konkan, North Maharashtra, Marathwada and Vidarbha, where temperatures are expected to remain significantly above normal for this time of the year. Experts say clear skies, dry winds and seasonal weather changes have contributed to the sudden rise in temperature across the state.

According to weather forecasts, districts such as Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Nashik, Dhule, Nandurbar, Jalgaon, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jalna, Akola and Amravati are among the regions where heatwave-like conditions may be felt. In several areas, daytime temperatures could climb close to 38°C to 41°C, which is unusually high for early March. Such temperatures increase the risk of heat-related health issues including dehydration, fatigue and heat exhaustion, particularly for people who spend long hours outdoors such as construction workers, farmers and traffic personnel.

While Pune is not directly under a heatwave alert, the city is expected to experience dry and warm weather over the next few days. Meteorologists predict that Pune’s maximum temperature could hover between 35°C and 38°C, with warm afternoons becoming increasingly common. Residents have already started feeling the early signs of summer with hotter days and relatively warm nights. Nearby districts in western Maharashtra, including Satara, Sangli and Kolhapur, are also expected to witness a gradual rise in temperatures.

Meteorologists say the current conditions are typical during the transition from winter to summer, when the absence of cloud cover allows the sun’s heat to warm the land surface rapidly. In some parts of Vidarbha, temperatures have already crossed 40°C, making them among the hottest locations in the country over the past few days. If the dry weather pattern continues, more districts could experience heatwave conditions in the coming weeks.

Health officials have advised residents to take precautions during the period of intense heat. People are encouraged to avoid direct sunlight between 12 pm and 4 pm, drink plenty of water, wear light clothing and limit strenuous outdoor activity during peak heat hours. Authorities have also warned that prolonged exposure to high temperatures can lead to heat cramps, dehydration or even heatstroke in severe cases.

The early heatwave alert indicates that summer may arrive sooner than expected in Maharashtra this year. With temperatures already climbing in early March, weather experts will continue monitoring the situation closely and may issue additional advisories if heatwave conditions intensify across the state in the coming days.
