Doctors in Pune report a surge in skin, eye, and urinary infections due to rising temperatures above 40°C, humidity, and dehydration, urging preventive care and hygiene during peak summer months
Pune | 29 April 2026:With temperatures in Pune crossing the 40-degree Celsius mark, doctors are observing a noticeable rise in seasonal health issues, particularly skin diseases, eye infections, and urinary tract infections.
Medical experts say that the combination of heat and humidity is accelerating the spread of infections, making them more frequent and severe. Viral infections are also being reported alongside these conditions.

Eye specialists note that children are especially prone to allergic eye conditions during summer. Common symptoms include intense itching and excessive watering, but without sticky discharge, which differentiates it from conjunctivitis. Many patients are also experiencing dryness, irritation, and headaches linked to prolonged heat exposure. In more severe cases, symptoms such as swelling, membrane formation over the eyes, and sharp pain have been reported. Doctors recommend simple remedies like cold compresses and prescribed antibiotic eye drops for relief.

Health experts highlight that dehydration, extreme heat, and fluctuating temperatures are major triggers behind the rise in infections. Maintaining adequate hydration, personal hygiene, and avoiding prolonged delay in urination can significantly reduce the risk of urinary infections.

Dermatologists are also witnessing an increase in fungal infections, skin allergies, tanning, and irritation caused by excessive sweating. The humid conditions allow sweat to accumulate in clothing, creating an ideal environment for fungal growth, leading to itching, redness, and inflammation.Doctors advise wearing breathable cotton clothing, keeping the body dry, and paying extra attention to children’s skin, as it is more sensitive and vulnerable during this season.
